The idea for the song was simply self reflection in things we lose. A crying dove doesn't just represent grief but also hope and, metaphorically, a bird is an unhappy woman. He's hopeful him and his will continue to last, I'm hopeful the next one turns out better. The music video in the rain is almost fitting as a prince reference "when Doves cry"
